 Register for the 2017-18 school year during open enrollment. The next open enrollment period runs from July 1 - 20.

REGISTRATION PACKETS WILL BE ARRIVING SOON
During the week of July 10th, the summer mailing registration packets are being assembled and mailed. Included in this mailing will be all the information necessary for you to complete prior to school registration. Additional school materials such as supply lists, the school calendar, policy reminders, extra-curricular activities, uniform policy reminders, etc. Please look for the summer mailing packet arriving at your house during the week of July 17.
 
In the packet, please pay attention to the updated medication authorization form. Here are a few of the updates.
  1. You must have your medical provider sign the medical authorization form for prescription medication to be administered at school.
  2. If you would like to have your child carry his or her inhaler pump or Epipen with him or her during the school day, there is a place for your medical provider to sign stating that your child knows how to properly self-administer the medication.
  3. Non-prescription medication must be provided from home. GHLS will not provide non-prescription medication to students.
 
GARDEN HOMES LUTHERAN CHURCH AND SCHOOL BEGIN STRATEGIC PLANNING PROCESS 
At the end of this last school year our church and school made a decision to go through the long-term strategic planning process. The results of this process will help guide the ministry efforts of our church and school moving into the future. To begin this process, data is collected from congregation members and school families in the form of surveys.
 
Please take time to complete the parent survey enclosed in the summer registration mailing packet. Your perspective is important to this process and will be used along with all the other surveys that are collected. The results of the survey remain anonymous. This survey can also be completed online at https://goo.gl/forms/sALtrZP1aDSSuBR42.

 
2017-18 REGISTRATION AND ORIENTATION UPDATE 
School registration and orientation is scheduled on Tuesday, August 8th at 5:00 pm, 6:00 pm, and 7:00pm and Wednesday, August 9th at 9:00 am, 10:00 am, and 11:00 am. All families need to attend. The registration and orientation process will take about an hour. To be most efficient with your time, please complete all the items that are necessary to turn in at registration.
 
Besides turning in your registration materials, all families will meet briefly with Mr. Dodge and Mr. Harvey and then their child(ren)’s classroom teacher. For veteran families and those new to Garden Homes, this event is a great time to reconnect with school staff and other parents, share some summer time stories, and make sure you have what you need to help your child have a great start to another school year.


You will receive the 2017-18 Parent Handbook at registration. Here is a link to access it online 2017-18 Parent Handbook. A link to the handbook will be available throughout the school year under the Current Families menu at the top of our home page.
 
SUMMER SCHOOL BEGINS
Summer school has begun. The theme for this summer is "Oh The Places You Will Go" and the scripture passage that accompanies the theme is from Joshua 1:9: "Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go."

Doors open at 7:30 am for students. All students arriving in the morning will go to the cafeteria. School begins at 8:00 am. Dismissal occurs at 2:00 pm on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. On Wednesdays there is an early dismissal at 1:00 pm. Students 10 years and older can attend Lighthouse Youth Center after summer school. All other students need to be picked up at the dismissal time. There is no form of extended care during summer school. There is no school on Monday, July 3 and Tuesday, July 4. The final day of Summer School is Wednesday, July 28. 
       

SCHOOL REPORT CARD AND EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES
State law now requires schools participating in the Choice program to post a link to the school report card on their homepage. This is the first year that Choice schools took part in the school report card system created by DPI. It requires two years of data to receive an official score on the state report card. Therefore, Garden Homes does not have an official score on the report card. The scores listed on the report card represent the state average. If you have questions about the report card, please contact Mr. Dodge.
