Garden Homes Lutheran School

Christmas Service
Your child has been working hard on their Christmas service recitations and songs. When you are able, ask them to sing or recite their favorite songs and Bible passages from their upcoming Christmas service. Don’t forget to mark your calendar for December 20th at 2:15 P.M.

School Closures
It’s that time of year again in which inclement weather can happen at anytime. When looking for school closures please be sure to check in on TMJ4 to see if school is cancelled due to snow or cold weather. There will also be a Gradelink email and text blast if any closings take place. Please check to make sure our emails are not be delivered to your spam folder. If you have any questions about this please contact Mr. Adam Harvey. aharvey@gardenhomeslutheran.org

School Report Card
The School Accountability Report Card is a score sheet generated by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction for all publicly funded schools and schools participating in the Private School Choice Program. The Report Cards are meant to help show schools how they are preparing students for the next step in their education. It is also meant for parents to see how the school their child is attending compares to other schools in the district and state. At Garden Homes we are extremely proud of our score. The Report Card and an informational letter are attached to this newsletter.

The “Busy Corner”
Earlier this week Mr. Chuqee Fletcher and Mr. Adam Harvey were able to meet with Council President Ashanti Hamilton and two traffic engineers to take a look at the busy intersection of Roosevelt and Atkinson. Hopefully in the near future we will have upgraded signs and maybe even a flashing pedestrian light.

Pastor Call Extended
Garden Homes Lutheran Church extended a divine call to Pastor Christopher Doerr to serve as full time pastor. Pastor Doerr has served as an editor at Northwestern Publishing House for the last 4 years. He has been blessed with his wife Carrie and 8 children. They currently reside in Milwaukee. We pray that the Lord would lead Pastor Doerr as he prays and considers this call to serve in our Lord’s ministry at Garden Homes.

Advent Dinners & Worship at Garden Homes
The word "Advent" means "Coming," referring to the coming of Jesus our Savior.  In addition to regular Sunday worship services, we are holding 3 Wednesday Advent worship services (December 5th, 12th, & 19th)  at Garden Homes, with a free soup/supper at 5 P.M. in the cafeteria, followed by 6 P.M. worship in the church.  We welcome you to join us as we prepare our hearts for the coming celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ.

Christmas Caroling
Each Christmas Eve, the members of Garden Homes go door-to-door in the neighborhood, singing Christmas carols and presenting gifts.  We welcome you to join us Monday, December 24th to share the good news of great joy of Jesus Christ.  If you'd like to join us, please meet in the Garden Homes lobby/entryway at 4:45 P.M. on Monday, December 24th.

Love & Logic Thought of the Week
Love and Logic teaches about the “Three E’s” of parenting: example. experience, and empathy. Example: Kids learn far more from the example we set than from the lectures we give. As parents, we want to show our children how to be kind and work hard by the way we live our life.
Experience: The road to wisdom is paved with mistakes. Mistakes made early in life are far more “affordable” than mistakes made later in life! At times, it’s hard to think this way, but mistakes are good. We want our children to make mistakes so they can learn now, with our guidance, in order that later in life they are prepared for life’s challenges.
Empathy: Empathy is the ability to relate and feel some one elses pain but not solve their problem. Empathy allows kids to learn from their mistakes. Anger allows them to blame us for their problems. When our children make mistakes, we want to show them empathy, or understanding of the problem they caused themselves, but then we want to allow them to solve that problem. At Garden Homes we like to say, “This is so sad, what are you going to do about it?”

G-house Day
GHLS t-shirts will be sent home this Thursday. We hope you love the design as much as we do. Friday is our first G-house day, which means students can wear dress down day clothes on the bottom and their new GHLS t-shirt on the top.
