Thanksgiving Message & Worship Invitation – Principal Bauer:
Psalm 136 begins with a familiar verse, “Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good. His love endures forever.” In our world today, we are often so focused on getting what we need, that we forget to take time to look and see what we have been given. Thanksgiving provides us the time to put everything aside and thank God for the tremendous number of blessings He has given us. Psalm 46 tells us, “Be still, and know that I am God.” There is no greater blessing than to know that I can “be still” because I have a God who loves and cares for me, who will protect me and guide me in life, who blesses me and whose love endures forever, who will one day bring me to heaven to be with Him because He has wiped away all my sins. During this Thanksgiving holiday, we at Garden Homes wanted to say that we are extremely thankful that you have given us the chance to share the message of our loving Savior with your family. May God richly bless you during your break.
All are welcome and invited to Thanksgiving Worship at Garden Homes Church on Wednesday, November 27th at 6:00PM. Come and rejoice in the blessings that our gracious Father has provided.
Operation Christmas Child Service Project:
Thank you to everyone whose astounding generosity has made the Operation Christmas Child project a tremendous success. With two days to go we already have packed 110 shoeboxes! These gift boxes along with the saving Word of Jesus will be sent to children all over the world.
Join Us for Flannels & Flapjacks Fundraiser:
On Friday, November 22 from 7:15AM-8:00AM you are invited to our annual pancake breakfast fundraiser. Pancakes, sausage, and coffee will be served in the gymnasium by our student council, the G-House of Reps. This is their largest fundraising event of the year with all proceeds going to benefit the G-House of Reps student program. The cost is $5.00 per person with all children 2 years or under free. Cash, card, and tap are accepted. Students in K3-8th Grade can show their support by dressing down with flannels and plaid that day.
Grade 3 Classroom Spotlight – Mrs. Tomhave:
The 3rd grade students are diving into the exciting world of biology and learning about how organisms inherit traits from their parents. When studying inheritance and traits, it is great for students to understand that variation is what makes each individual within a species unique, even though they share similar characteristics. They are connecting real-world examples of variation and understanding why siblings (who are members in the same family) are not exactly the same. They also used their investigative skills to look at different bird species and understand how they were different. The third graders looked at pictures of the birds and listened to the different sounds that each bird made in order classify them.
Funeral at Garden Homes Lutheran Church:
There is a funeral scheduled Friday, November 22 at 1:00PM for the grandmother of one of our students who has entered her eternal rest in heaven. The K3, K4, K5 Fall Festival has been rescheduled to 8:15AM. In addition, we anticipate that parking availability at afternoon dismissal may be impacted. Please, be patient as we accommodate the bereaved in our school family.
Free Child Safe Kit
Child Safe Kits are a way to have all the identifying information on your child in the event they go missing such as blood type, eye color, height, weight, DNA, and fingerprints. If your child is reported missing, you can immediately provide the authorities with the information they need. A note detailing how to obtain one of these optional, free kits went home with your child today.
Veteran Honored
In recognition of Veterans Day on November 11, students in grades 3-8 had the privilege of hearing from Air Force veteran Mr. Lorenzo Hawkins. Members of the G-House of Reps served as moderators as Mr. Hawkins spoke about his life in the military and answered student questions. Garden Homes salutes our brave men and women like Mr. Hawkins who have selflessly served our country.
Grade 7 Classroom Spotlight – Ms. Walls
The 7th grade classroom has been enjoying many different science activities outside of the classroom. The first being a science experiment they took part in by exploding pumpkins for the very first time in November. It was unforgettable and took 7th graders by surprise. The students were able to create a gas using different materials to then create a small explosion which popped the carvings out of our pumpkins faces. The second activity was our field trip to Jones Island and Schlitz Audubon. The 7th grade class got to learn about our sewage system and how our water is filtered and put back into Lake Michigan. They then learned about Lake Michigan and the benefits of keeping our city clean. We are excited to take part in more activities throughout the year!
Inclement Weather Updates
In the event of a severe weather event that could delay or close school, we will post on Fox 6 News and TMJ4 websites, as well as send a text message and email directly to the numbers and addresses on file. Know that Garden Homes makes delay and closure decisions independently of MPS taking in consideration the safety of our specific school community. We understand that school closures and delays have a large impact on our families and will endeavor to make these decisions in a timely manner.
