Classroom Spotlight - Grade 5 – Mrs. Bauer
5th Grade recently learned about Incan "quipus," in Reading class. The author's tried to persuade the reader that the knots on quipus were used for either numbers or letters. After learning about the quipus, each 5th grader made their own version of a "quipu" by knotting and braiding various strings and yarns. They tied them all together to make a giant QUIPU. It's on display on the 2nd floor in the hallway!

Classroom Spotlight - Grade 2 – Ms. Ernst
In our Social Studies class, we are learning about the life of Harriet Tubman. Harriet Tubman was a brave woman who helped many people escape from slavery through the Underground Railroad, a secret path to freedom. She was very kind and strong, and she risked her life to help others find a better life. We will end our unit by making our very own Freedom Quilt, like the ones used by people who traveled on the Underground Railroad. The quilt was a special way to share important messages. We will continue learning about other influential African Americans and the great things they have done to make the world a better place throughout the rest of February!
